Now let’s talk about the details! I love online grocery shopping – it’s so easy to clip the coupons and sort for deals and maximize savings! And every few months each of the different grocery chains gives out a nice juicy coupon to lure consumers customers FREEdgers to their online shopping channels. And SPREADING your loyalty between the major chains is a pleasingly anticapitalist practice to take advantage of a system DESIGNED for OVERCONSUMPTION and WASTE.
Can we talk about that for a minute? I’m talking about the scourge of the shelves: BUY ____ GET ____ FREE or the even more ridiculous: BUY 1 GET 1 50% OFF. You see, major brands could of course actually just give you fair prices for their products but what’s the fun with that? Americans don’t want that! No no no, we want GAMEFIED SAVINGS! Did you know that literally 100% of consumers (squiggly underline) will buy a $10 item for 20% off over an identical $8 item? Now take that same example, cook it up with more complicated math like BUY 3 GET 2 FREE, sprinkle on some fluorescent lighting and soothing yet urgent muzak and PRESTO – your recipe for overconsumption is complete!
Do we NEED 5 of whatever it is we’re buying? No of course not HA HA! But if we’re lucky enough to have a house over our head and enough money for the electric bill we are sure to have a handy ENORMOUS REFRIGERATOR (bigger than you’ll find anywhere else on the planet of course) to store it ALL FOREVER until it rots or expires.
It’s OK though FREEdgers. Since we have to play the game to survive anyway we might as well band together and WIN!! I’ll definitely talk more about these issues but my goodness for now – let’s shop!
This morning’s deal was really fun to do. Milk and milk substitutes have been #1 items @ the FREEdge in our vast experience of 4 days so I got 4 half gallons of Safeway Organic Milk on sale for $4.99 each and 6 half gallons of Almond milk on sale for $3 each. This particular $40 off $75 coupon doesn’t actually allow for “fluid” milk but was a good deal and some folks actually need organic milk for dietary reasons so I went for it. The coupon value brought them down to $2.42 each so I was pretty thrilled with that.
Other dairy products – especially cheese have been very popular so I also got some cream cheese on sale. The final score was a bunch of Olli snack packs for $2.99 each. These are an awesome, protein filled easy to eat real food item that lots of folks can eat. If you don’t really like shopping around just go straight for $75 worth of these! There are 6 different varieties and they’re all popular.
My Order Was 24 Items for $105.76. I had Member for U savings of $24 and Safeway for U savings of $44. My grocery total was $37.76 and I tipped the driver $5. Yay!
All you have to do now is figure out your login, clip your coupons, fill your cart, check out and schedule delivery to the FREEdge! We’re there to take deliveries Thursday - Monday 10–4
